Lesson Plan/Course

Title: Improv Class

Component: Dance Creation

Objective: Feels the music and responds to it, whether it's sad or happy movements for example.

Competency: As the teacher puts on a song, she tells the children to do movements and poses based on how the song makes them feel.

Key Concept: Expose young students to expressing themselves so they feel comfortable improvising when they're older

Activity: Students split into two groups. The first group is on the floor, the second are sitting in front. The teachers puts on a song, and all of the dancers must do some poses and movements based on how they feel. Each person has a partner, and then the second group tells their partner from the first group what emotion they think the dancer was expressing and then they switch groups.

Materials: No materials, just students and music

Assessment: See how well students can express themselves and portray how they feel when they hear different types of music.
